BROTHER PR1060W
A semi-professional 10-needle embroidery machine for small businesses. The embroidery area is 360 × 200 mm and the speed is up to 1000 stitches/min.
In the Brother operation manual and on the Brother websites the machine is called PR1060W; the US website calls it “Entrepreneur Pro W PR1060W” and the leaflet calls it “Entrepreneur PR1060W”. It is the same machine. It is for embroidery only.
The embroidery area is 360 × 200 mm, so a large design can be embroidered without repositioning the fabric in the hoop. The machine has 1184 designs, 50 fonts and a 3D font, which you can preview and edit on the 10.1-inch touchscreen.
The built-in camera helps you position a design accurately on the fabric. The machine has 10 needles with individual settings, and the thread is cut automatically at the end of each colour. A tubular frame table is also in the box.

Features
Large embroidery area and hoops
The maximum embroidery area is 360 × 200 mm. The box includes 4 hoops: 360 × 200, 180 × 130, 100 × 100 and 60 × 40 mm.
The optional Jumbo hoop PRPJF360 extends the embroidery area to 360 × 360 mm. Designs for it must be created in PE-DESIGN NEXT or a later version, and the software automatically divides the design into 2 sections that are combined into a single embroidery. A design of up to 350 × 350 mm can be embroidered without shifting the fabric within the hoop – after the first section is embroidered, the hoop is removed, turned around and attached again. The wide table PRWT1 must be used with the Jumbo hoop, and such designs cannot be saved in the machine's memory. Position the fabric in the hoop so that there is at least 10 mm of space to the inside of the hoop.
The speed range is 400 to 1000 stitches/min. According to the manual, the maximum is 600 stitches/min. with some hoops. The Brother Europe website says the speed can be reduced to 400 stitches/min. for flat items and for the optional cap and cylinder frames, and that the machine reaches 1000 stitches/min. in 7 seconds.

Built-in camera and positioning
The built-in camera shows the embroidery area live on the screen. Mark the spot on the fabric with chalk, attach the hoop, touch the camera key and move the design with the position keys until the chalk mark shows in the camera view window. You can rotate the design parallel to the chalk mark, show the needle drop point, adjust the image brightness (darker for light fabric, lighter for dark fabric), zoom the camera view and save the camera image to an external device.
The design can also be positioned with an embroidery positioning sticker. The box includes 4 sticker sheets, and a pack of 8 sheets, EPS2 (XG6749-001), is sold separately. Affix the sticker so that the centre of the large circle is aligned with the centre of the design; the camera detects it, you select a reference point (the Brother Europe website lists 9 options) and the hoop moves into position. Remove the sticker before embroidering. Test the removal on a scrap of fabric first, and if the sticker cannot be detected, secure its 4 corners with tape.
According to the manual, the camera cannot align the position when the optional holder D, holder E, a cap frame or a cylinder frame is installed. For fabric thicker than 2 mm, switch [Fabric Thickness Check] to ON in the settings so that the machine measures the thickness; otherwise the fabric may not be detected correctly, and the needle may break when fabric thicker than 2 mm is embroidered. Leave the setting OFF for light to medium-weight fabrics.

Matrix Copy and shortcut key
Select a design and touch the matrix key in the design editing screen: the repeated design is positioned across the whole area. Specify the hoop size and adjust the spacing – it can be widened or tightened. Each time the key is pressed, the layout is recalculated automatically.
After a design is selected, the shortcut key skips the design editing and embroidery settings screens.

10 needles with individual settings
For each needle you can set a maximum speed (400 stitches/min. for metallic thread), reserve the needle bar and colour, and disable the automatic needle threader (the Brother Europe website says this is useful with thin needles). A temporary needle bar lets you use a needle bar that is already threaded with a similar colour.
With the normal method, colours can be assigned to up to 9 needle bars; with [Manual Color Sequence] on (off at purchase) all 10 can be used. This is useful for data without thread colour information, such as DST, and when you use the same colour combination every time. The settings stay until the design is deleted or the machine is turned off, and the spool change prompt is unavailable in this mode.
If a design has 11 or more colours, the machine stops and shows which spools to change; an indicator also shows the time until the machine stops. A spool is easy to change: cut the thread between the spool and the thread guide, change the spool and tie the new thread end to the remaining end of the old thread.
The needle is threaded automatically, and the upper and bobbin threads are trimmed automatically.

Tubular frame table
The tubular frame table PRTT1 (D01FAF-001) is in the box, as stated in the addendum to the operation manual and on the Brother Europe website. It is for sleeves, trousers and other tubular items and gives extra support for big fabrics. The wide table PRWT1 is sold separately.
Attach the table so that the machine bed passes through the openings in the mounting brackets, and push it until it touches the machine. Extend the table to suit the hoop and fabric size so that the fabric does not hang down. Close the hook cover before attaching or removing the table.
Do not place heavy objects, such as golf bags, on the table or press down on it. Some tubular items with a small diameter, shallow depth or heavy weight may not be suitable, so check the embroidery area before embroidering. Do not leave the table extended when it is not in use. Clean the underside of the machine bed before use and remove dust from the rubber pads before storing the table. If the rubber pads stick, pull the table's arm down by hand and then remove the table.

Touchscreen and editing
The 10.1-inch high-resolution IPS LCD touchscreen has a wide viewing angle. A USB mouse can also be used (some mice may not be compatible).
Designs can be edited on the screen. With density-preserving resizing switched on, the machine recalculates the stitch density automatically, and depending on the design it can be enlarged by up to 200% or reduced to 60%. This function cannot be used with character, frame or repeated designs or large buttonhole designs, and designs with 100001 or more stitches cannot be resized while keeping the density. The display zoom is 100, 125, 150 or 200%.
On the screen you can rotate a pattern, flip it horizontally (mirror image), duplicate it, group patterns, add another pattern and combine several patterns into one embroidery. Undo and redo keys are available.
More features
Automatic hoop detection
- The machine automatically detects the attached embroidery hoop and its holder.
Thread sensors
- The machine has upper and bobbin thread sensors.
Vertical bobbin
- The bobbin is vertical, and according to the Brother website it can often be changed without removing the hoop.
- Only the bobbin case is installed at purchase; use prewound bobbins (Fil-Tec / TRU-SEW POLYESTER “Filaments”) or metal bobbins designed for this machine.
- Clean the bobbin case and check the bobbin thread tension at every change.
Adjustable LED lighting
- Built-in LED lighting with adjustable brightness (the Brother Europe website lists 5 LEDs).
Administrator and operator locks
- The machine can be locked with a passcode: the administrator lock uses a 6-digit passcode, and the operator lock (which locks the LCD screen) uses a 4-digit passcode.
Function key optimisation
- Choose which function keys are unavailable.
- One set of settings is kept on the machine, and a set can also be saved to a USB device and recalled.
- This function is not available in Link mode.
Resuming embroidery
- Embroidering can be resumed after the machine has been turned off or after a power loss; some stitches may be embroidered again.
- Cut the thread before turning off the machine.
Preview, basting and appliqué
- The machine has a stitch simulator and a progress bar.
- A basting outline can be added around the design (distance 0–12 mm, default 5 mm), and the appliqué function instantly creates an outline of the design.
Quilting
- According to the Brother Europe website, there are 20 quilting motifs, 26 decorative fills (stippling and echo stitching) and 5 two-colour sash designs.
- Auto-split sash designs can be up to 3000 × 3000 mm, and the camera helps to position continuous designs and sashes.
Colour management
- The colour sequence can be shuffled with 4 schemes (“Random”, “Vivid”, “Gradient” and “Soft”), and colours can be grouped.
- Colour sorting groups parts of the same colour together so the thread spool is changed as few times as possible; it does not work on overlapping designs.
- Individual colour sections of a design can be switched off, a multicolour design can be converted to a single colour, and you can create your own thread table.
My Design Center
- You can create your own designs from clip art, imported .jpg, .png and .bmp images or by drawing directly on the large screen; with the optional scan frame you can also scan line art printed on paper.
Lettering and text editing
- Text can be entered on several lines and aligned left, centre or right.
- Letter size can be chosen from 3 options (L, M, S), the spacing between letters can be changed and, once a letter is selected, its thread colour can be changed.
3D font with urethane foam
- According to the addendum to the operation manual, the 3D font is embroidered over urethane foam up to 3 mm thick.
- Cut the foam larger than the design and secure it with tape (not over the design); basting around the design secures the foam more firmly.
- Make the bobbin thread tighter and the upper thread looser.
- For caps Brother recommends the flat brim cap frame (sold separately).
Connecting designs with the camera
- The camera helps to connect several designs: the connecting area is 330 × 170 mm, and the 360 × 200 mm hoop is recommended.
- The function cannot be used with the 60 × 40 mm hoop, cap frames, the cylinder frame, the sleeve frame, clamp frames, the name frame or round frames, with split designs created in PE-DESIGN 7 or later, or in Link mode.
Link function
- Designs can be sent from a computer to several machines with software that has the Link function, such as PE-DESIGN NEXT or a later version.
- Up to 100 designs can be transferred to one machine, and the embroidery progress can be viewed on the computer.
- Up to 10 machines can be connected wirelessly (PE-DESIGN 11.2 or later is required) and up to 4 by USB cable.
- The function works only with .pes designs and is not suitable for split large designs.
Wireless connection and My Stitch Monitor
- Designs can be transferred wirelessly via PE-DESIGN 11 or Brother BE EmbroideryStudio.
- The My Stitch Monitor app (iOS and Android) shows the embroidery progress and alerts you when it is time to change the thread or when the embroidery is finished.
Thread trimming settings
- You can turn jump stitch trimming on or off, delete short stitches (0–1 mm) and select the thread tail length – standard or long (long suits metallic thread).
- Automatic lock stitches are switched on at purchase (this option can be turned off).
Thread tension
- According to the Brother Europe website, the machine has updated upper thread tension dials and a wider tension range, so lighter fabrics such as satin and organza pucker less.
Tutorial videos
- Scan the QR code shown on the screen with a mobile device to watch tutorial videos.
Maintenance
- According to the manual, oil the machine before first use; afterwards put a drop of oil on the hook once a day before use.
- Every 40–50 hours of embroidering, put one drop on each lower needle bar above the felt washer.
- Use only machine oil and do not over-oil; wipe off any excess with a rag.
- If the thread breaks while embroidering or the hook becomes noisy, oil the race hook.
- Unplug the machine before cleaning.
