Features

Sewing and workspace

All operating buttons are on one panel: needle position (up/down), thread cutter, start/stop and the sewing speed slider. You adjust the sewing speed with the slider, and for zigzag stitches you can set it to change the stitch width as well.

You can choose whether the needle stops up or down – handy when turning fabric, sewing corners or joining quilt pieces. With the accessory compartment removed you get a free arm, which makes it easier to sew small tubular areas such as armholes and cuffs.

Quilting and free-motion sewing

Quilting and free-motion sewing

You lower the feed dogs with an easily operated lever, which is needed for free-motion quilting and for sewing on buttons. Free-motion quilting needs a quilting foot, which is sold separately.

The presser feet snap on, so they can be changed quickly.

Colour touchscreen and My Custom Stitch

Colour touchscreen and My Custom Stitch

You control all functions by touching the 3.7-inch colour LCD (432 × 240 pixels). The screen has icons and 15 languages, and the preview of embroidery designs is realistic.

My Custom Stitch lets you create your own stitch: you draw the design on a grid sheet and enter the points on the screen. You can also edit a built-in template and save the stitch in the machine. A stitch you create can be up to 7 mm wide and 37 mm long.

Artspira and wireless LAN

Artspira and wireless LAN

Over wireless LAN you can transfer additional designs with the Design Database Transfer application (for Windows devices only) or connect to Artspira. Brother states that you can find free designs and projects there or draw your own design.

You can also load designs from a USB flash drive – just plug it into the USB port of the machine.

Embroidery and design editing

On the screen you can rotate a design in 1°, 10° and 90° steps, mirror it and resize it from 90 to 120 %. With the "Add" button you can show several designs together, and you can write text on several lines.

You can choose the font size (L, M, S). In addition to the Brother thread chart, the machine recognises threads from three other manufacturers.
