BROTHER Innov-is F420
A computerised sewing machine with 140 stitches, a 3.5-inch LCD, an automatic thread cutter and a knee lifter.
Ten of the 140 stitches are buttonhole types. There are 5 lettering fonts: 3 Latin (Gothic, Handwriting, Outline), Cyrillic and Japanese (uppercase letters only). You choose a stitch on the keypad and see the settings on the 3.5-inch LCD.
You can save frequently used stitches and stitch combinations in the machine memory. The My Custom Stitch function lets you sew a stitch pattern that you have designed yourself, and the grid sheet set is included.
The SFDS (Square Feed Drive System) and a 7-point feed dog move the fabric evenly. The workspace is 19 cm. Two LED lights illuminate the sewing area and a hard case protects the machine.

Automatic thread cutter
When you finish sewing, press the button and the machine cuts both the upper and the lower thread.
Needle threader
Lower the lever and the needle is threaded.
Manual thread tension adjustment
Adjusting the upper thread tension helps you get good stitch quality on different fabrics. On the F420 the tension is set manually.

Bobbin winding (F.A.S.T.)
The bobbin is wound on the machine (F.A.S.T. system), and the wound bobbin is simply dropped in from above (Quick Set).
19 cm workspace
- There is 19 cm of space between the needle and the body of the machine for the fabric.
Maintenance
- The user must not oil the machine: it was lubricated at the factory with the right amount of oil, so periodic oiling is not needed.
- Unplug the machine before cleaning; clean the bobbin case area with the brush and do not oil it.
Sewing functions
- Lock stitch button: secure the start and end of a seam with one press
- Automatic reverse and reinforcement stitch
- Knee lifter to raise and lower the presser foot
- Saving stitches and stitch combinations in the memory; up to 70 stitches can be combined in one pattern
