BROTHER Innov-is F400
A computerised sewing machine with 40 built-in stitches, an automatic thread cutter and a needle threader.
Six of the 40 stitches are one-step buttonhole types. You select a stitch directly with a keypad key (each key carries two stitches: press once for the left one, twice for the right one) and see the settings on the 2.7-inch LCD.
The SFDS (Square Feed Drive System) and 7-point feed dogs move the fabric evenly. The workspace measures 19 cm, 2 LED lights illuminate the sewing area and a hard case protects the machine.

Automatic thread cutter
After you stop sewing, press the thread cutter button and the machine cuts both the upper and the lower thread.
Automatic cutting can also be set: select the automatic thread cutting key and, at the end of the seam, press the reverse or lock-stitch button once. The machine secures the seam, stops and cuts the threads. The setting is cleared when the machine is switched off.
Needle threader
Follow the thread path, lower the lever and the needle is threaded.
The threader works with needles 75/11–100/16; it cannot be used with a twin or wing needle and is not recommended for transparent nylon or specialty threads.
Top-loading bobbin
Drop in a full bobbin and you are ready to sew.

Free arm
With the accessory compartment removed you get a free arm, onto which you can slide the item you are sewing.
Accessory compartment
Presser feet and other small accessories are kept in the accessory compartment of the machine.
Bobbin winding
The bobbin can be wound by pressing the Start/Stop button.
19 cm workspace
- There is 19 cm of space between the needle and the body of the machine for the fabric.
Maintenance
- The user must not oil the machine: it was lubricated at the factory with the right amount of oil, so periodic oiling is not needed.
- Unplug the machine before cleaning; clean the bobbin case area with the brush and do not oil it.

- Twin-needle sewing (2/11 twin needle only): two parallel lines of the same stitch, with two different threads if you wish. Both upper threads must be of the same thickness and quality, the horizontal spool pin is required and the needle threader cannot be used. Only the stitches listed in the manual can be used
- Free-motion quilting: the feed dogs are lowered and the optional free motion open toe quilting foot “O” is used
Stitches
The six buttonholes are narrow rounded, narrow squared, keyhole, heirloom, stretch and keyhole with a vertical bar tack. The 40 stitches also include a darning stitch and a bar tack stitch.
The maximum buttonhole length is about 28 mm (button diameter + thickness).
