BROTHER Innov-is A150
A computerised sewing machine with 150 stitches, 4 fonts and a thread cutter button. You select stitches with an electronic keypad and can save your own combinations in the memory.
Buttonholes are sewn in one step, and the machine has a Start/Stop button and a speed slider.
The machine has a 3.64-inch LCD, LED lighting and a needle threader. It comes with 7 presser feet and a hard case.
Features
Electronic keypad and display
Select the 10 most commonly used stitches with the number keys and type in the number of any other stitch. The selected stitch appears on the 3.64-inch LCD.
You can adjust the stitch width (up to 7 mm) and length (up to 5 mm).
The screen automatically shows the details of the selected stitch: width, length and the presser foot required. If a setting is incorrect, an error message appears on the screen.
150 stitches, lettering and memory
The machine has 150 stitches, including 10 buttonhole types. Buttonholes are sewn in one step with automatic size setting; the maximum buttonhole length is about 28 mm. For labels and monograms there are 4 fonts: three Latin fonts (Gothic, Handwriting and Outline; capital letters only, also with numbers and symbols) and one Japanese-character font.
Stitches and letters can be combined, mirrored and repeated. You see the combination on the screen before sewing and can save your own combinations in the machine's memory.
Reinforcement stitches and thread cutting
The reinforcement button sews 3 to 5 stitches in one place, which is usually needed at the beginning and end of a seam. With automatic reverse/reinforcement stitching switched on, the machine sews reinforcement or reverse stitches by itself at the beginning and end of sewing.
When you finish sewing, press the thread cutter button and the machine cuts the upper and bobbin threads.
The machine can be set to cut the threads automatically at the end of stitching (programmed thread cutting); when it is switched on, automatic reverse/reinforcement stitching is switched on too.
Needle threading and bobbin
The needle threader threads the needle in one action. It works with needles from 75/11 to 100/16 but cannot be used with a twin needle.
The bobbin is inserted from the top. You can start sewing without pulling up the bobbin thread.
The machine takes home sewing machine needles in sizes 65/9–100/16 and thread of 30–90 wt (silk 30–80 wt); thread of 20 wt or lower (heavier thread) must not be used, as it may cause the machine to malfunction.

An LED lamp lights the work area.
Bobbin winder
The bobbin winder is built into the machine.
Start/Stop and needle position buttons
- The Start/Stop button starts and stops sewing without the foot controller; when the foot controller is connected, you control the machine with it.
- The needle position button raises or lowers the needle.
- Pressing the needle position button twice sews one stitch.
Speed slider
- The speed set with the slider becomes the maximum speed of the foot controller.
- Maximum speed is 850 stitches per minute.
Zigzag width while sewing
- With the foot controller connected and the setting enabled on the screen, you change the zigzag stitch width while sewing with the speed slider.
Presser feet
- The presser feet snap on, so they can be changed quickly and easily.
- The machine has a presser foot levelling button.
Thread tension and fabric feed
- The upper thread tension is adjusted manually.
- The 7-point feed dogs feed the fabric smoothly, from sheer silk to denim.
Free arm
- With the flat bed attachment and its accessory compartment removed, it is easier to sew sleeve cuffs and trouser legs.
Twin needle
- The machine has a twin needle setting.
- The twin needle (2/11) can only be used with zigzag foot “J” and only with the stitches intended for it; it cannot be used with character stitches.
Free-hand sewing
- The feed dogs can be lowered for free-hand sewing and quilting.
Maintenance
- The user must not oil the machine: it was lubricated at the factory with the right amount of oil, so periodic oiling is not needed.
- Unplug the machine before cleaning.
- Clean the bobbin case area with the brush and do not oil it.

Stitches
The chart shows the stitches and the Latin lettering fonts of the machine. The stitch pattern plate can be attached to the machine handle, or hung from the hard case when the machine is stored. The full stitch chart is also in the user manual.
