BROTHER CV3440
A coverstitch machine for hems, topstitching and decorative stitching. It sews with 4, 3 and 2 threads and has a 155 mm working space and a free arm.
The machine sews four main stitches: triple cover, wide cover, narrow cover and chain. When you sew hems or decorative stitching, the cover stitch forms on the underside of the fabric and rows of straight stitches show on top.
The machine is intended for household use and suits fine to heavy fabrics. The working space to the right of the needle measures 155 mm, and the free arm makes necklines, hems and cuffs easier to sew.

Lower looper threading
Push the looper release lever and the looper moves to the right, so you can thread its eye. The thread path is marked with a coloured line and numbers.
Adjustable presser foot pressure
You change the presser foot pressure with the dial on top of the machine, above the needle.
Metal thread stand
The metal thread stand adds strength and, once the threads are in place, helps straighten them to prevent tangling.
Controls on the right
The presser foot lever, stitch length dial, differential feed dial and handwheel are on the right-hand side of the machine.
Light and compact
The machine weighs 7.6 kg (net weight) and measures 396 × 297 × 358 mm. It has a carry handle.

Automatic thread tension release
- Lifting the presser foot lever releases all thread tensions.
- They stay open until you lower the presser foot again.
Free arm
- With the bed extension removed, it is easier to sew necklines, hems and cuffs.
Chain stitch
- The machine can sew a chain stitch with 1 needle and 2 threads.
Differential feed
- Set with a dial; the normal value is 1.0.
- A lower value stretches the fabric and reduces puckering on thin fabrics; a higher value reduces rippling when sewing stretch fabrics.
- The more elastic the fabric, the further the dial should be turned from 1.0 toward 2.0.
- Do not use differential feed on thick non-stretch fabric such as denim, as it may damage the fabric.
Vertical needles
- They penetrate deeper and are less likely to damage the fabric.
LED light
- The LED light next to the needle illuminates the sewing area and saves energy.
Thread cutter
- The built-in cutter trims the threads.
Mounting holes for attachments
- There are holes for attachments from Brother and other manufacturers.
Front cover compartment
- There is room for needles, tweezers and the hexagonal driver.
Looper thread tension lever
- The lever fine-tunes the looper thread tension: raise it to increase the tension when sewing stretch fabric or with a short stitch length, and lower it to reduce the tension when sewing non-stretch fabric or with a long stitch length.

The wide and triple cover stitches are 6 mm wide, the narrow cover stitch 3 mm.
